During the course of a hot summer on a Thamesmead housing estate love blossoms in the most unexpected of places. And for these neighbours, life will never be the same again…

Beautiful Thing is a glorious urban love story about coming out and coming of age. This comedy exquisitely depicts what it’s like to be sixteen, in the first flush of love, and full of optimism.

Celebrating its twentieth anniversary year, Jonathan Harvey’s award-winning Beautiful Thing returns to the West End for a limited 6 week season at the Arts Theatre. This uplifting and heart-warming new production is directed by Nikolai Foster and designed by Colin Richmond.

Award-winning actress Suranne Jones stars as Sandra, Jamie’s mum. Recent TV credits include Scott and Bailey as Rachel Bailey (ITV); The Secret of Crickley Hall (BBC); Idris the human Tardis in Doctor Who (BBC); A Touch of Cloth (Sky); as well as her role as the unforgettable Karen MacDonald in Coronation Street. Her stage work includes Top Girls, A Few Good Men and Blithe Spirit.

Waterloo Road star Zaraah Abrahams plays Leah, Hollyoaks heart throb Oliver Farnworth is Tony and introducing Jake Davies as Jamie and Danny-Boy Hatchard as Ste.

Fame hungry singer Mike Chariot, betrays his best friend and abandons his childhood sweetheart to win the nation’s favourite talent show ‘The Golden Voice’, but he quickly realises he is merely a puppet for the record company and TV execs. Too famous to return to his old life, he decides to disappear. After a brief media frenzy the machine moves on and he is all but forgotten.

Fast forward 20 years, a wiser Mike Chariot is back to make amends and help young singers and musicians achieve their dreams without entering television talent shows. However his noble quest will bring him back in contact with his embittered former best friend Jim Ryan, who descended into a life of crime, after Chariot split up their band. But now Jim has the power to exact his revenge.
